From The Dean PHOTO BY WALLY AGBOOLA Change That Matters. I’m Bob Kueppers, Chair of the Carlson School Board of Overseers. Dean Sri Zaheer has asked me to introduce this special issue of Carlson School. The Dean and the Board work closely together on some important aspects of the Carlson School: strategy, fundraising, alumni relations, and the like. Our Board brings together the knowledge and collective experience of our members: CEOs, CFOs, small business founders/owners, and many other top executives from around the country and beyond. The Board truly is an asset, given its commitment and mutual interest in seeing the Carlson School succeed for many years to come. We decided to draw upon the Board’s collective experience and explore the lasting impacts of the Great Recession of 2008, one of the most dramatic events shaping business today. Specifically, we asked our members as well as our world-class faculty to share their observations in three areas reshaped by that complex event: finance, international operations, and human capital. How have businesses responded to Dodd-Frank and other regulations? How are emerging markets and economies changing the balance of international competition? How can businesses best align their workspaces for today’s employees and those of the future? In this issue our experts share their insight on these questions and many related issues. We hope you find these observations informative and indicative of the thought leadership that the Carlson School so ably produces on a regular basis. Robert Kueppers Chair, Board of Overseers Senior Partner, Deloitte LLP
